Kusama Yayoi


Pumpkin

Kusama Yayoi is one of the most famous Japanese contemporary artists. She was born in 1929 in Nagano prefecture and became internationally famous in 1960s New York as part of the pop-art movement. Since the 1970s she has continued to create award-winning art, and is well known for installations in museums all over the world. Her most famous motif is the “pumpkin”, possibly inspired by her childhood as the daughter of plant and seed merchants.
